The Recordable TV

What's a unique and interesting way to show you can download the tv you're watching right onto your flashdrive? The action on the things you're watching on tv, literally moving into your flashdrive. I love these ads, quite beautiful.

Doggelganger

Here's an awesome website promotion the adoption of dogs without a home. What's the best way to win someone over when adopting, finding a dog that looks just like them. :] This is what pedigee worked to do in their Doggelganger website. Here people have the option to either upload a picture of themselves or to take one live and have their facial features matched with a cute little pup who happens to look a lot like themselves. From there you're matched with a dog who's available for adoption and you even have the option to opt for adoption for the little guy. Not gonna lie, this website made my heart melt.

On a side note, please ignore my terrible appearance, it is due to it being finals week of my last week of college :D

But yeah, I tried different lighting and everything to see if I got a better match and it did help. So mess around with it, it's a lot of fun! Maybe you'll even find a little pup you'll fall in love with! :D hahah. If you'd like post your doggelganger for me to see! I'd love to take a look. :]

Stop-Motion

Not to be overly posting, but my goodness, this is wonderfully done! God knows if I get to go back to school I would totally go back for motion media or animation...or photography. Maybe I'll just do them all to get it over with. Here's an amazing example of stop motion photography.

Heatonomy

Really interesting idea to literally show money being thrown out the windows. I wonder to myself though, were they really making the proper reach to the audience they intended, or were they too excited for free money? At least the point was put across through the PR and media coverage they were able to get.

Here's an explanation from ads of the world.

"Utility rates for heating and energy keep growing. Loosing warmth because of windows that are unadjusted to cold Russian winters, people waste money. REHAU windows save warmth and considerably save expenses for heating. Heating + enonomy = heatonomy. In our advertisement we decided to demonstrate how people waste money, literally throwing it out of their low-quality windows. In several big Russian cities every day during a week we were throwing real money out of the window of a billboard. There were stickers on the bank notes with stated amount of losses over a season. The promotion generated public excitement. More than 200 media (including the most popular TV channels, broadcasting stations, newspapers and web-sites) highlighted the event for free. On throwing 240 000 rubles (7000 $) we got free media for the amount that hundreds times exceeded expenditures for the audience over 40 million of Russians. The idea of heatonomy has spread all over the country."

For Those Who Like to Travel

The first example is one that has actually seemed to turn into a phenomena of it'd own, couch surfing. I only learned of it last quarter when one of my partners for a project explained to me how he was hosting a couch surfer that was coming to visit Savannah. The idea itself is interesting, members have the option of supplying information and pictures of themselves and of the sleeping accommodation they may offer, if any. More information provided by a member, and other members, improves the chances that someone will find the member trustworthy enough to be his host or "surfer." Members looking for accommodation can search for hosts using a few different qualities such as age, location, gender and activity level. The surfer is able to stay at the host's house without having to paying any money, except maybe for replacing the food they eat.

CouchSurfing provides travel guides and forums where the members are able to seek travel partners or advice. CouchSurfing's main focus is in "social networking" and members organizing activities like camping trips, meetings, and sporting events.

The website is already very successful and already has 3,072,679 members participating on the website. On the other hand I can't get past the fact of people lying about who they are and the possibilities of you not really knowing the person who's house you are going over. My partner had said he had had some sketchy people who he hosted for and there has even been raped when going into a strangers home. Not to mention that your home is supposed to be a safe place for yourself and your possessions, I may be paranoid but I would never want to leave someone I didn't know inside of my house where they're able to do as they wish.

couchsurfing.org

I also found another website called TravBuddy that specializes in connecting travelers. The site allows users to find travel buddies planning to travel to the same places at the same times, to create travel based blogs, upload photos of their travels, and review bars, restaurants, hotels and various attractions on their traveled areas. The site has nearly 1,350,000 registered contributors and provided free access to over 65,000 blogs, 17,000 travel reviews, and 750,000 travel photos. I feel like this site is successful because it appeals to a very specific group of people who are passionate about traveling and will want to get opinions or reviews of places they will be going to. I don't see anything that can be a downfall of this website, except for the immediate well known dangers of any social networking site, and I feel like this site will only get more popular with time with it's usefulness and the word of mouth of the users.

In learning more about social media I found this article called "50 ways marketers can use social media to improve their marketing." Reading the list, there were some interesting suggestions that were made in how to optimize social media and how and when are the right times to use it.

Promotional Minisites

A promotional minisite should be something that should be interesting to the viewer and interactive while promoting whatever it may be to the viewer. I'm going to be posting two examples since I'm not sure that my favorite falls into a typical promotional website.

My first example is on from Arcade Fire

This is actually my favorite example of ones that I was able to find. The viewer is greeted to an aesthetically beautiful website where birds fly around the page and even interact with the page by landing on the branch-like text on the page. The only thing that prompts the viewer is a text input box that asks the viewer to type in their address from when they were a kid. With a little bit of loading time your interactive video is ready to be played. Music in the background plays from the band and you see a man running in a strategically placed pop-up window, another window is introduced and layered behind that one. The windows continue moving throughout the screen seemingly dancing with each other and creating a feeling just with how they're moving together. Then for the best part...well I want people to do this, so I'm not going to say, but let's just say there is actual interaction with your adress you gave to the site involving the video.

Also during this time seamlessly integrated part where you're asked to write a note to yourself when you were young. The best part is you're able to submit this to the band. This is how they explain this, "The Services are an interactive art project in the manner of a music video." With reading on, it seems that they are going to take a compilation of the notes written to the viewers younger selves in a final music video. Very interesting huh? I love this whole concept because it gives users interaction with the band itself. Also, you are given a link to your letter and other users can respond, you can also make responses to other users as well. Very nice touch since this will be something that will promote users to come back to the site, especially since the note they wrote to themselves is most likely something personal and important to them. Here's a view of the note I wrote my younger self. Sorry it sounds kinda emo, but oh well; again it's personal! Click the image and you can see more detail in the way the program makes your own writing look like the branches on the homepage.
Okay, so obviously that was my favorite example of a promotional minisite. Now I'll post one that's a more obvious example of one.

I love this example mostly for the homepage. I thought it was really daring to go against one of the norms when it comes to design and making the homepage predominantly in black and white. Then the only accents of color are the things that are most important, the logo and the beautiful product shot. (I sometimes think about the pitches to clients and what they were like, in this case I wonder what Malibu thought at first not being typical and doing things in black and white). This site is actually really interactive and well designed. I love how later in the site you're able to see that they introduce the color fully through the website. There ideas everywhere that show how you can use the product, and promoting the lifestyle they want to associate with Malibu Rum. Overall I feel this is a great example of a traditional minisite for a product.

New Design

So with the redesigning of all of my personal promotional materials I decided to stream line everything that I have online for an idea of what my things will look like. The theme? A girl with a love of cars. :] Here's a preview of the new business cards. We'll see how everything goes, really just working on the formatting right now, and TRYING to figure out the paper that I'll be printing on. Excited though. Roughs will be due monday, printed on that mysterious paper I have yet to decide on. Also, want to add that I'll be using my own handwriting where you see my name in a computer script font.

Display Advertising II

Display advertising should be something that is interactive and interesting, but yet undisruptive to the content of the webpage the user is experiencing. In some cases, you can give the user the choice to experience something that can change the web page in an unique and interesting way only. These two examples are both ones that give the viewer a choice in if they want to interact with the ad of not.

Next I'll be showing examples of a homepage of a promotional minisite. Besides doing this for an assignment for my web class I'll be doing this to help out with my own webpage that I'm working on for a project. We've got most of the design down, but now we'll be starting to build them. I'll leave it as more of a surprise of what the subject is I choose. A hint though? It's historic advertising that didn't have a web page since it was too soon for the internet. Another hint, it's unlike any other cola. :]

Hope everyone's doing well. Enjoy the rest of your Friday!!

Display Advertising

Pretty soon I'll be posting examples of good examples of display advertising, or the advertising you'll see at the sides of your webpage windows...often annoying, but if done correctly can be really interesting and fun! Here's an example of a great one done by Apple with the infamous duo of mac and pc.

Funny, interesting, and most importantly, doesn't interrupt the user interface when they're reading through their content of the website. It actually makes a web banner more interesting because there's a breakthrough in the normal bounds of a typical skyscraper and typical web banner. Later, I will be posting more examples since this one is so popularly shown. Hope everyone had a happy Fourth of July!

Now off to work for me! See you all soon.

Another Quarter/Last Quarter

Here it goes!  Time for my last quarter here at SCAD, I'm really excited to be able to redesign everything I've done so far at school (though I'm rather intimidated in the same).  The job searching has started and I have a few places in mind that I'd really like to work :]. I'll be keeping everyone up to date with how I'm doing in my classes and what I'm redesigning and when.  I just hope that in the end I can come up with some decent advertising!   I'll  also be posting weekly what I'll be putting onto the advertising blog we have for class.

Have a great night everyone! And also have a wonderful 4th of July!

Found this interesting Website

Apparently what it does is it has you look through different youtube movies, gain points, and your video will come up more.  All of it adds up to gaining overall youtube views.  Very interesting, thought I'd try it
Here's the link to it below. :]

Final Commercial

Had to do a quick commercial for our final for broadcast this quarter. (Our grade depends on how many times people view soooo if you would it would be awesome and would help us out a lot :])

But basically we did a viral style video that was supposed to look messy and choppy showing people trying to be Jamaican. The whole point? That no matter what, Red Stripe is authentically Jamaican, even if you're not. The best thing about the videos were that we were asking people to just give their best tries at speaking in a Jamaican slang. So everything you hear in it, every confused and misguided word, is them just naturally being silly and making things up as they went along.

Red Stripe, Authentically Jamaican, Even if you're not.

Here are screen shots for the video. :]

Not that this has to do with design.

This is only one of the many links that's floating around right now.

Sharpie Liquid Pencil Final

So, I had said I would post the finals of this project the night before it was due.  Well, funny story!  I had no idea what I was getting into.  Finishing the final drawings for my project/putting everything together took forever to say the least.  I wasn't able to go to sleep.  Basically I was awake from 9:00AM Wednesday, and then was able to go to bed at 10:30 PM on Thursday (after both classes and a lecture that turned out to be two lectures combined into one.)

Crazy.

Anyways, here are my finals!  Sorry about the bottom part of the pictures being shifty in their alignment. It doesn't show up that way in the preview of my editor and the code isn't messed up so not sure what's happening.  Oh well, again, anyways, hope you enjoy!

Print ads part of the campaign.  All read a tag, change your mind at Sharpie.com.
This tag works on two levels, you can change your mind when you're writing or using the pencil,
and you can dare to change your mind about Sharpie as a brand,
it's no longer all about the permanence.

Another important point is that if they don't read anything from the headline,
they'll see Sharpie Liquid Pencil for sure through the accent color.

Examples of how the long headlines can translate into short worded billboards.
The result is a short and witty title to call the new pencil.  Keeping the dynamic way of displaying
the sharpie coming into the frame of the design will be only using billboards that have off-center
polls and creating them into the whole pen.

Third and final spread.  The darker part shown that says save is a part
that folds down and reveals the coupon underneath

Back page with the extended full version of the tagline for the Liquid Pencil.

This is my first try ever for a copy driven headline.  It went alright I'd say. :] This is what I have so far.  I had originally been planning on drawing out a TV script.  That had to be scrapped since I was taking on too many drawing projects in one campaign and it takes me a long time to draw so that didn't happen unfortunately.  But I will finish it for this soon enough and you'll be updated.    :D

Thank you for looking!  And have a great day.

Opportunities

So kinda...okay pretty sad.  I feel kinda upset that I'm missing out on a lot of great opportunities.  I've been asked if I was running for Ad Club by people who are running it right now.  Had to tell them I can't because I'm not going to be here.  I was asked to be a part of the NSAC team as an Art Director for the team, had to turn that down too.  It's just something that really lets you down since I'd be so interested in doing both and I would have been part of both for sure since I was being asked and recommended by both people who were already in it and were making those choices.  Now I'm kinda stuck as being a senior who hasn't gotten to be a big part in those clubs, and due to financial problems I've had to work through different opportunities to internship on top of that.  I'm very happy that I've been asked to do these things though I have to say and couldn't be more appreciative. Just sucks when things could have turned out differently if my schedule for graduating wasn't messed up from being a transfer.  Oh well.  :]  Just thought I'd throw that out there. Back to work.  I'll post tonight my progress for the Sharpie project. :]

Hope all is well for everyone. :]

Sharpie Liquid Pencil

So the first time in my advertising experiences I've found a product I can only think of in terms of copy.  Sharpie Liquid Pencil.  When brainstorming I couldn't come up with any ways of showing this pen in a more visual way without it being boring or normal.  So world, here's my crack at an all type ad.  Please be kind, I'm no copywriter lol.

To come will be one more print ad, followed by a direct mail piece...and I am contemplating a commercial concept...we shall see! lol

SCAD Career Fair

Finally got to go to the career fair to talk to people yesterday about different internships and job opportunities yesterday.  It's always amazing to be walking around, seeing the agencies and representatives, and wondering what their stories are and how they got where they are today.  I do know one thing though, seeing them all and being able to talk to them about your work is amazing.  I'm so happy I was able to go,  I don't know what I would have done if I wasn't able to have this experience.  If anyone from these companies are reading this, I thank you so kindly for taking the time to see all of us and talk to us. It means the world to me especially.  Thank you. :]

Starbucks Ready Brew Coffee Final

Here's the finals for my print ads for Sarbucks.  First I'll show them in the magazines, and then I have the detailed images. :]
Insert as it would be closed

The final printing of my insert.

Now to take a closer look at the ads.

This is what I had wanted my insert to print as.  Problem was
they couldn't print double sided on a 25 inch piece of
large format paper.  Oh well I guess.  Plus it was around
100 dollars to print one sided. *cringe*

Sorry about the colors, and the quality of the images.  I really hope everyone enjoys! :]
